Sandakan Central market (pasar umum ) is one of the must visit place for foodies. Sandakan Central Market hawker stalls also serve good and affordable foods. The hawker center is located at the 2nd and 3rd floor. Sandakan Central Market stalls open from 3am onwards and the whole market is buzzing with business activities. Some of the food stalls open at 4am and by 6am all the stalls are already ready for business.
at the 1st floor, you can find many stalls selling vegetables, fruits, and salted fish.
Beef store inside a mini refrigerator with see through the glass.
coffee anyone?
Fishing boat docks at the market and unloads the fish from their fishing boat in the early morning. Be early if you want to see fresh seafood from the fishing boat.
2nd floor onward is where all the food stalls are. 2nd-floor foods stall is where you can find all the halal foods
Wide selection of Mix vegetable.
on the 3rd floor, you will find many food stalls operated by the Chinese community. There are over 30 food stalls here and all stalls look mostly the same. The most famous stall is The original homemade kueh Teow with deep-fried pork. They have a big signboard at their stall
A bowl of Kueh Teow only cost RM 3.10. You can choose the dry or soup version. The soup is tasty with a hint of prawn taste
The Chinese version of economy noodle with side dishes.
Another highly recommended stall at Sandakan Central Market is stall no. 33 ( the last row facing the sea). Their seafood noodle comes with prawn and fish slice. Price at only RM4. They also serve good fried noodle and Wat Tan Ho. I find the Wat tan ho a bit too salty for my liking though so do remind them to put less salt.
Most of the food stall open till 12pm as they mostly cater to the breakfast crowd. Be early and experience the market while taste the food the Central market got to offer.
Location: Beside Sandakan Harbour Mall. Best is to stay at Four Points by Sheraton Sandakan as the central market is just a few steps away.
GPS Location: 5.838768N 118.1206173E
