Despite being only 20 minutes boat ride away from Kota Kinabalu, Gaya Island is not the place you would thought of for dinner. Upon the invitation by Annie from Tablelesstravelled, we start our journey from the Jesselton Point and 20 minutes later, we arrive at Bunga Raya Resort on Gaya Island. The short boat ride remind me of how much Kota Kinabalu have to offer as we experienced dining on an island resort which is only 20 minutes away from city centre.
I have been to Gayana Eco Resort (under same management of Bunga Raya Resort) few times but this is the first time I visiting Bunga Raya Resort. Friendly staffs greet us at the jetty and after passing through landscaped garden, we soon reached The Koi Restaurant. We decided to have some cocktails before our meal. They have great selections of cocktails on the menu.
Melon Man, my choice for the day
After relaxing at the bar area. We proceed to Wine Cellar below The Koi Restaurant. Jonathan (Operation Manager) show us around the wine cellar. There are more than 450o bottles of wines in collection. No wonder it is one of the best wine cellar in South East Asia.
Bottles everywhere. Some of these wine cost up to half million ringgit
As it is raining outside, we have our dinner inside the wine cellar. My first time experience 🙂
We have the wine cellar for ourselves, good place to chit chat and enjoy our meal
Entrees, Kerabu Chicken and Hinava.
Curry chicken with locals herbs and vegetables cook to perfection
Beef Rendang. The beef is too tough for my liking
Lamb shank with spicy sauce.
Tiger prawn . Big and Juicy
Sabah Vegetable. One of the more popular dishes among the diners
Its certainly a great experience dining in a wine cellar. The only regret is we reached Bunga Raya Resort on a wet evening and didn’t get to enjoy the nature environment of the Bunga Raya Resort.
Will I travel all the way to Bunga Raya Resort for a dinner? Of course no, as we have many choices around Kota Kinabalu. It make sense if you are staying at Bunga Raya Resort or you looking to host exclusive dinner for guest from overseas
