4th Day  Tainan – Taipei 

After 4 hours train ride from Tainan, we finally reached Taipei. Our next stay is at a Luxury Apartment near Songshan MRT booked through Airbnb. After we meet up with the owner and put down our luggage, we are on the move again exploring food in Taipei.

A room with view of Taipei 101 at Songshan. We booked our accommodation for our Taiwan trips through Airbnb. We have great experience using Airbnb but our last night stay at Taipei was spoiled by the host who cancel our stay.

 Our first food hunting stop at Taipei is Ximenting.

Ximen MRT Station

AGA Burger

A simple burger kiosk hidden at a small alley near Ximen MRT Station exit 3. You choose your choice of burger (pork, beef , chicken, hotdog, sausage) and pay at vending machine. Cost 100NT$ and come with a can drink and the burger in a beautiful pack.

while waiting for my burger, met this pretty girl from Macau studying in Taipei. She show me 愛食記 apps which she use to find foods in Taipei.

AGA burger come in this beautiful box, with a can drink, straw and burger inside. nice burger bento!

Mala Yuanyang Hotpot 马辣顶级麻辣鸳鸯火锅

We tried this Hotpot 3 years ago and we miss it so much. One of the place we highly recommended for Hotpot. You can expect unlimited refill of beef, pork, lamb slice,large variety of steamboat food such as  meat, prawn, tempura, taro, dumpling, fish ball, meatball, hotdog, crabstick, veggies etc. End with desserts (Haagen-dazs and Movenpick ice-cream!), over 30 choices of drink which include free flow beer, many fragrant tea, coffee, bottle soft drinks, milk tea and orang juice.

5th day – Taipei

Shandao MRT station

Fu Hang Dou Jiang – 阜杭豆漿

Fu Hang Dou Jiang is a very popular eatery serve authentic and traditional Chinese breakfast, Soy Milk, Deep fried cruller 油条 , Dan Bing 蛋饼 , Rice balls etc. Be mentally prepared to wait for anywhere between 30 to 60 minutes. Fu Hang Dou Jiang is located at the building next to exit 5 of Shandao Metro Station and by the time we reach at 7am, the queue reached till the metro 5 exit! Fu Hang Dou Jiang is located at the 2nd floor of the building

Longshan Temple MRT Station

陳記腸蚵專業麵線 Chen ji Mian xian

While most  peoples go for Ah Zhong Mian Xian at Xi Men Ting for their famous mee sua, Chen Ji Mian sian’s Mee Sua is equally if not better.

陳記腸蚵專業麵線 Chen ji Mian xian’s Mee Sua come with big oyster and pig intestine.

海天香餃Hai Tian dumplings

Located 2 stalls away from 陳記腸蚵專業麵線 is 海天香餃 . We tried the dumpling with soup. The dumpling is big but juicy as I expected.

黑豬肉Wild boar chinese sausage stall right beside 陳記腸蚵專業麵線. Taiwan sausage is yummy and juicy. Full of porky taste.

Songshan MRT Station

Songshan Citylink shopping centre is integrated with Songshan Train Station and Songshan MRT Station. We love to stay at Songshan area as it is well connected by Train (TRA) and MRT. We find some interesting cafes and food stalls at Songshan Citylink shopping centre.

Mr Papa

Serve belgium waffle with various toppings. Look tasty and pretty

Raohe Street Night Market

One of the most popular night market in Taipei located only 5 minutes walk away from Songshan MRT station. It is located on Raohe Street and is about 600 meters long. Raohe Night market open daily from 5pm to 12am

3 foods you must try at Raohe Night market :

1)陳董藥燉排骨 Chen Dong’s Spare ribs stewed in herbal soup,

2)下港名彭臭豆腐 stinky tofu

3)福州世祖胡椒饼 pepper meat buns.

陳董藥燉排骨 Chen Dong’s Spare ribs stewed in herbal soup looks and taste like Bak Kut teh with lighter version of herbal. serve with ribs, best way to eat it is by using you hands!

50NT$ for 4 pieces of stinky tofu

pepper meat buns 福州世祖胡椒饼 stall is easily noticeable as there are always long queue in front of the stall.

三媽臭臭鍋

三媽臭臭鍋  literally mean Mum’s Smelly wok. It is not smelly at all and very tasty. One wok big enough for 1 person serve as a steamboat. 三媽臭臭鍋  have many branches throughout Taiwan. Find the list of branches here 

one pot come with lots of vegetables, pork meats, pork intestine, enoki, crab stick, hot dog and smelly tofu!

A very satisfying meal. flavourful, cheap and tasty. Highly recommended !

6th day – Taipei

Last day in Taipei, start off the day having breakfast at neighbourhood coffee shop

Sogo Zhongxiao Branch

Sogo is a upmarket one-stop shop, home to a number of high-end luxury brand headquarters and gourmet food retailers connected to Zhongxiao Fuxing MRT Station.

you’ll find high end lifestyle stores and a great selection of imported foods in the resident gourmet grocer. Perfect place to hunt for good food

原杏杏仁茶

原杏杏仁茶 Yuanhsing almond tea is famous for its traditional methods of making almond tea: no preservatives, no additives, and only the freshest ingredients. One of the more successful franchise originated from a small food stall found at Sogo.

Tim Ho Wan 添好運

Tim Ho Wan, the hole-in-the-wall eatery in Hong Kong that defied all odds to gain an entry in the Michelin guide made their entry to Taipei, offering up authentic dim sum dishes priced between NT$78 and NT$138.

Govida

Godiva Soft Serve ice cream! Probably the most expensive soft serve ice cream at 180NT$ but who cares when you are served with super smooth, extra chocolaty, rich, creamy drizzled with more chocolate sauce. Yummyyy

Zhongxiao Dunhua MRT Station

We stay at Zhongxiao Dunhua are at our last night in Taipei. Lots of street foods and shopping around the area. We tried the 滷味 braised meat food stall at Zhongxiao Dunhua area.

Elite book store near Zhongxiao Dunhua MRT station open 24/7. This will be the place we gonna spend the night reading books. Eslite book store is one the biggest retail bookstore chains in Taiwan and they have wide selections of books in Chinese and English

Gongguan MRT Station

Our last dinner in Taipei, we meet up with Ryan (Whom we met in Sabah) currently working as an English teacher in Taipei. He told us there are some good and cheap Xiao Long Bao at Gongguan area.

Gongguan is a popular shopping and leisure area with a night market . National Taiwan University of Science and Technology and National Taiwan University, the highest academy of Taiwan, as well as the prestigious International Chinese Language Program (ICLP) are also located here.

We manage to taste many interesting and tasty food during our 7 days 6 night from Taichung – Tainan – Taipei. We will be back to Taiwan again for another food hunting trip!
