Invited Review – The meal was hosted by Cafe on Fifty5
While Tong Hing’s roots run deep into the Sabahan soil, Cafe on Fifty5, a recent conception of the establishment has finally set up home.
At Cafe on Fifty5 the cakes and pastries section continue to draw in significant crowds, though their popular breakfast and lunch items on the menu could also be considered indulgently pleasing. Order up an Eggs Benedict (RM 33.90) and you’ll get a hearty portion of poached eggs topped with fool-proof hollandaise sauce.
My favourite is Cafe on Fifty5’s version of the spaghetti carbonara (RM 29.90). It’s uncomplicated and rustic. But you might want to loosen up your pants, this dish is hand made egg based spaghetti swimming in velvety sauce with a main component of Grana Padano cheese.
Further afield find a bowl of mushroom risotto (RM 34. 90) that manages to incorporate as many porcini mushrooms as possible. It’s a silky creamy mix that’s worth exploring and so are their other lunch items. Especially the ones that include Tong Hing’s very own bread.
But if you’re going for a quick sandwich and coffee in the central business district, Cafe on Fifty5 fair’s up decently. On the other hand, it’s also a place to stretch out your legs and enjoy your table for as long as you want.
