I want my birthday to be special. But how special can it be in Kota Kinabalu? To my surprise, my husband arranged with Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa to surprised me with a sunset cruise and dine on the beach on my birthday.
I didn’t think much of it when he drove to the Tanjung Aru direction thinking we will be spending time at sunset bar before proceed to dine at Shang Palace. Instead, we head to STAR Marina direction and board the waiting boat just for both of us.

Cold beer while cruising, perfect for the hot evening
We stop by a small island made up entirely of dead coral. I didn’t know such island exist before this.
We spend some time on the island enjoying the sunset view. A whole island for ourselves to enjoy the sunset. The sky is cloudy and we didn’t get to see the beautiful sunset but the experience is great!
The sky already turned dark when we reached Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa and our beachside dining is ready. Listen to the sound of the wave while enjoying the breeze from the sea.

Special Birthday cake for my special day, thank you to all the staffs for making it special. Thanks to Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa for the arrangement. Such a perfect experience for my special day, feet in the soft sand, the ocean years away, soft tiki lighting, great hospitality and of course, terrific food.
