Invited review by San Da Gen Kopitiam
Visitors to Sandakan usually avoid staying at the town area because they complain that it’s hard to find local Sandakan foods at the town area while commercial area at Mile 4 and the new IJM area offers lots of option especially come to food. For us, we like the town area because of its authenticity and you can explore the Sandakan Heritage Trail. With the opening of San Da Gen Kopitiam, now we can enjoy Sandakan local foods in a cozy environment.
San Da Gen Kopitiam is located at the ground floor of Nak Hotel and managed by the same owner who runs Balin Rooftop. The design of San Da Gen Kopitiam attempt to capture a feel of 60’s look while blend in modern elements of comfort.

Who can resist this UFO tart? they are pretty, tasty and made using the real egg custard instead of artificial flavoring.
Sambal Kon lou chicken (Rm9.90). Served with a big piece of fried chicken.
Tom Yam Seafood (RM11.90). Served with fresh seafood. add in the sambal for more oomph.

San Da Gen Kopitiam offers a good variety of local and Malaysian favorite foods at an affordable price and comfortable environment. The food may be more expensive compared to the coffee shop but the portion is big and they offer comfortable and better dining experience.
San Da Gen Kopitiam is leading the change at the town area by providing a comfortable dining place with tasty local foods. Hopefully, more new shops will be opening at the town area and turn the sleepy town into a vibrant place.
