Hyatt Regency Kinabalu celebrated its 40th anniversary on 1 August 2019, commemorating four decades of milestone achievements. The property was officially opened as Kinabalu International Hotel by then Deputy Prime Minister YAB Dr. Mahathir Bin Mohamad on 11 May 1977.

Kinabalu International Hotel is the first five stars international hotel in Sabah an in July 1979, Kinabalu International Hotel entered into an agreement with Hyatt Hotel Management Ltd (Hyatt) to manage the hotel which is now known as Hyatt Regency Kinabalu.

The Hotel has undergone a number of upgrading works over the past 40 years to ensure that the best quality of services and facilities are provided to their guests. The works among others included the refurbishment of the 288 spacious guestrooms, Tanjung Ria Kitchen and Terrace, Avantang Spa & Gym, The residences and many more.

The 40th-anniversary event was officiated by Deputy Chief Minister and State Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment of Sabah, YB Datuk Christina Liew. The main highlight of the ceremony was the unveiling of extensive new mural paintings in collaboration with local artists to create momentous murals showcasing the distinct culture and ethnicity of Sabah. The murals were also part of Hyatt’s initiatives to promote Kota Kinabalu to international tourists.

Hyatt15 Hyatt’s longest-serving employees pulled the curtains to reveal the 165-foot-long mural on the property walls. Hyatt Regency Kinabalu is offering a series of special offers throughout the month of August 2019 including 40% discount for every 40th guest dining at Tanjung Ria Kitchen for buffet lunch or dinner, and RM40 net for all-time favorite signature fish, Oxtail Assam Pedas.
